About 6 years ago, Nick Hawkins from Fredericton began working with Juan Carlos Cruz of the Tambor Tropical hotel in Costa Rica to develop the birding resources of the area into sustainable tourism for this usually bypassed area of Costa Rica. Four years ago, I became involved and have worked to encourage NBers to go. In 2015, we had 10 couples in two tours. Last year, the weak $CAD made it more difficult so we did not run any tours but did guide those people that did come. I continue to support their efforts as Carolyn and I have become quite attached to the people at the hotel and those in the small community of Tambor.
These all-inclusive 8 day tours (with the option of a 2 day extension to the Monteverde Cloud Forest) provide an excellent introduction to tropical birding guided by Nick Hawkins while staying in luxurious beachside accommodations. They are very competitively priced, as well.
So far, it looks as though we will have two tours for sure, one beginning on January 26 and the other on February 9. More are possible.
