Interesting, Mike... think I've just seen a photo of this bird in today's [December 2nd/17] Telegraph Journal in 'Sightings'. The image was taken in Gagetown... your profile indicates you are from Gagetown area as well. It seems there has been a very leucistic Black-capped Chickadee in the Gagetown area since summer. Leucistic is a term used to describe a lack of pigment. If there weren't any areas on the bird, including the eye, that showed ANY pigmentation, it would be called albino. The bird in the photo in the newspaper shows a dark eye. Your image shows faint areas of pigmentation on the wing/side area, [unfortunately I can't see the eye well]. Suggest you've been visited by a leucistic Black-capped Chickadee. Thank you for sharing!
