"Hal Hinds notes in his Flora of New Brunswick that birds are "rarely attracted" to the berries. High bush cranberry is also very conspicuous through fall and winter - another that is not a favourite of birds."

"Thank You Denis and Ken. I had never seen Winterberry before. There was another shrub further off the trail that was loaded with berries- too wet to get to and too far to get a good photograph. Are birds attracted to the berries? Maybe they are not…"
