Crested Caracara Near Lake Utopia Today

Thanks to Catherine Johnson and husband Michael, we were able to see and study the Charlotte County CRESTED CARACARA this afternoon on Route 785 near Lake Utopia. After receiving a call from Catherine who had just seen the caracara at a porcupine carcass, Jean and I decided to jump into our car and make the one-hour drive to try and see the bird. As Ron Steeves once said during an interview about rare birds on CBC Radio “The best time to see a rare bird is when it’s there.” During the drive we…See More

Hello Jim, my name is Erin Brown and I was referred to this website and to you by my mom who heard of you through True Life Church and a talk you gave there. For the past 12 years I was working as a zookeeper in Memphis, TN, mainly with birds. I have since moved back to Quispamsis and wanted to explore bird related activities, volunteer opportunities, and possibly even conservation jobs in the area. My mom wondered if you might have any information. Thanks, Erin

this is not a bird but a black swallowtail butterfly I found alive in my home on Jan 7th - I have been feeding with sugar water and tangerine slices - it is still living as of today - someone said I should contact you :)

Hello Jim

I am contacting you in regards to the Golden Eagle sightings in November at the Tantramar Marsh.  As part of the Eastern Golden Eagle Working Group and a fieldwork subcontractor for MDIFW, I would be interested to learn more about the GOEA sightings both recent and historic in N.B. I have recently joined Birding New Brunswick to follow sightings over the border.  I am also contacting Gilles Belliveau, I see he posts a N.B. Winter Bird List.  Your name was passed along to me by Todd Watts, I spent a day at Greenlaw Mt with him last fall.  I plan to take a drive up to Tantramar Marsh this winter to view the area, with or without a Golden Eagle! It sounds as though there are consistent records of sightings in the area over the years. If you have a chance, I would be interested in any information that you could convey.  Best, Jill Glover Great Pond, Maine

Hi Jim, Jim Landrey, Director of Landscape New Brunswick, referred me to you. I'm speaking in Moncton on the 20th of November and would like to do a bit of birding while I'm down there. Do you know anyone I could hire for a day to take me out? I'm not a great birder but I love the outdoors and photography and the three go well together. LOL

You can reach me at sdjames@on.aibn.com

They can pick the day close to the 20th (but not the 20th obviously) and I'll build my flight and hotel reservation around that.

Thanks,

Sean James

Thanks very much Jim.

They have since left the old dead tree they were staked out in. I did get some decent photos before they left the are. I have tramped around the area but have failed to see them again

We have a mature Turkey Vulture and two immatures  hanging around the area here in Harvey Station. I was unable to find anything on line regarding them breeding in NB.

Is this a common occurrence ?

Thanks

Hey Jim, I have been trying to find a way to contact you, didn't think of checking on here. I added you as friend so I can send you a message regarding GMI birding festival :)

Hi Jim:

I wanted to contact you about the GM weekend coming up.  Anne Marsch has invited me along.  That was so nice of her to include me!  Last week she encouraged me to contact you about the Saturday pelagic bird tour but I was unsure of things at that time.  Could you maybe add me to your "spare list" and we will see what happens.

Thanks, Jim and hope to meet you in person soon.

Lois
