"Good shot Tom.  This is probably Polistes fuscatus which is highly variable in colouration.  P. carolina supposedly only gets as far north as NY State in the north east, and is rusty coloured. Compare pics of both -…"

Tks.  Admittedly was trying to track down Jim Edsall but did take the time to cruise the site and it is a pleasant site.  Plan to let my daughter know.  Jim is also on a butterfly site and it is amazing.  Again, daughter and I enjoy butterflies.

Thank you, Tom for the term describing those interested in insects; I was being a bit "playful". Please keep your info coming. I learn so much from this site!!! I do "dabble" in a bit of everything Nature related.

Yes Tom,Irishtown park is a favorite spot for my husband and I.We go walking there often year round.I have never seen fish there but I imagine someone released their pets there and they have been having little ones.A shame people don't do the right thing and just dump them and make a problem down the road.

Tom, if you go to www.bugguide.net and type "Orange-spotted Lady Beetle" in the search box on the upper right, you will get photos of this species from all over North America, including my humble little shot from New Brunswick. But, the folks from Pennsylvania don't seem to have add theirs there yet.

OK. Now I get it. Thank you for the clarification. The species you mention (Exochomus quadripustulatus or 4-pustulatus), is a European species that has been introduced repeatedly to North America, but has never persisted in the east anywhere north of Massachusetts to my knowledge. Moreover, it is now known as Brumus quadripustulatus and there are no records of it anywhere in Eastern Canada (as far as I know). There are pics of this species in North America here (click on the Pine Lady Beetle link below):

Pine Lady Beetle

I don't think this is the same beetle Eric and I are seeing here.

Hi Tom,

I submitted a bunch of images yesterday from most of the summer and have not heard back from them yet.
