Living on the Edge - The Secret Life of a Turky Vulture at NB Museum

March 13, 2017 from 7pm to 9pm
Living on the Edge: The Life of a Turkey Vulture. Judged by their appearance and what they eat, turkey vultures get a bad rap from almost everyone. However, they are very interesting birds - resourceful, highly intelligent yet very passive. They’ve become one of Jim Wilson’s favourite birds and he’ll do his best to convince you too.See More

"What a lovely picture. I have woodpeckers at the suet everyday but they are either downy or hairy. Have not learned to tell them apart yet. Used to see the pileated here too but sadly not lately."

"Always something to learn here. Don't think I ever say that duck here on the lake or anywhere else. Saw it in bird books"

"Ok. Good to know. I will leave it and see what happens. The chickadees will not go near it. They like the open top feeders and don't seem to mind the blue jays"

"So I gather thistle seeds only work in the summer. Not a bird goes near the  thistle feeder, not even chickadees. They go to the regular feeders with the blue-jays. I guess I will take it down for the winter."

"Did not know cardinals were here this time of year? I guess the name should tip me off. What seeds do they prefer besides sunflower? I have thistle seeds in one feeder but nothing will go near it now. Some in summertime. Seen cardinals in St.…"

"Bev, the species nests in Feb./march so they probably left to locate and claim a nesting area. Possibly the reason you saw 3 is that in spring, the strongest offspring chases it's siblings from the territory. This one stays with the parents but…"
