Cats - Inside or out?

I have two really big cats and they just love watching those birds...  but I wouldn't have them view the birds any other way than on my computer screen.  I'm against outside cats - there is absolutely nothing out there for them but fights, death and causing death to birds, mice and squirrels.

Backyard Activity

My backyard feeders have been busy for the past 3 days. Had to fill and clean them today.  Walked through knee high snow to get to them in the back.  Love the front yard ones because they are off my deck. Have coming to the feeders Robins, Starlings, House Finch, Mourning Doves, Black capped Chickadees, Dark eyed Juncos, Blue Jays, 1 Song Sparrow and 1 White throated Sparrow.  Had a nice surprise visit today when a Brown headed Cowbird showed up with the 1 Common Grackle that has been a…

Another report on Snowy owls

Ann, that is a great map - keep up the good work!

Today (Dec. 16th, 2013) I was talking to Gédéon Robichaud and he told me that he saw two snowy owls in the Bathurst Harbour on December 6, 2013.  He described one as being completely white while the other was more grayish in colour.

looking for a Sharpie or Coopers

Now I believe that nature should take it's course, so it's important to feed the raptors.  I have quite the abundant population of Mourning Doves, so if anyone knows of an accipiter looking for a new home, send it over to 442 Main st , Hampton, just tell it the only part of the contract to living here is to stay away from the Cardinals.

Thankyou from Management.

A Snowy Owl map of NB

After seeing so many postings here on BirdingNB, NB Listserv, eBird and Twitter of Snowy Owl sightings, I made a map showing where they have been reported. Some of these may be the same owl showing up in another location, but where 2 or more are shown at one location they were seen at the same time. I'm going to keep updating the map as new sightings are reported, just for fun :) Feel free to let me know if I've missed any.
