After seeing so many postings here on BirdingNB, NB Listserv, eBird and Twitter of Snowy Owl sightings, I made a map showing where they have been reported. Some of these may be the same owl showing up in another location, but where 2 or more are shown at one location they were seen at the same time. I'm going to keep updating the map as new sightings are reported, just for fun :) Feel free to let me know if I've missed any.

Thanks for the update Rod. The details you've provided make it likely at least 3 are new sightings.

Difficult to say.  If so, the four reported have all died. The two owls of December 20 were juvenile or female.  They were found south of the Bathurst Harbour.  The two reported in the Bathurst Harbour on December 6 were a male and juvenile or female.

The one reported on December 22 on the snowmobile trail west of Little River and was seen after the ones that died in Little River and Big River.

I have no information on the one seen in Beresford.

That's a shame. Some seen around the province have looked plump and healthy but others aren't faring so well. Should they be on the map or are they likely ones already reported in Bathurst/Beresford?

Sorry to hear that Rod, unfortunately that often is the case.

Good morning Anne,

These snowy owls were found dead or very weak and died afterwards and were reported to the Bathurst DNR office.

On December 19 on the road to the Petit Rocher wharf

On December 20 in Big River, south of Bathurst

On December 20 at Little River near the Bathurst Bassin

On January 7 on the road to the Petit Rocher wharf.

Hi Anne,

Kevy Levy of Bathurst reported to me today that he saw a snowy owl while on the snowmobile trail # 19 just southwest of Bathurst on December 22, 2013. See map for location (red star) just below the name Bathurst.

Thanks for the awesome map (Anne) and the reports of snowy owls all over! Two quick questions:

1) Any sightings in the Fredericton area? Like actually in Fredericton-ish?

2) Is everyone remembering to report their snowy owl sightings to ebird? I ask because I was on ebird recently and there are not many sightings reported for NB. And we want to show that we are a snowy owl haven! ;)
